Unfair and Without Decency

“Master, there are people without any decency, full of malice, who can’t even greet others. It’s best to just ignore them, right? What should I do?” the student asked.

Master Weizhen looked at him and said:“Don’t lower yourself to their level. Remain decent and virtuous.”

“But that’s not fair,” replied the student.

Weizhen responded:“What is fair, really? Perhaps these people never had the chance to learn virtue. So let them at least experience it through us — and let’s hope they one day recognize it for themselves.”
